Eldred Junior-Senior High School (JSHS) is turning football fever into community action with its “Souper Bowl” food drive competition. Running through February 5, JSHS students are leading the charge to collect canned goods to support local families during the winter months.

While the district recently completed a Thanksgiving drive, student organizers at the JSHS identified a critical need for continued support. “We decided we need something else to give back for the winter months,” said student organizer Tabitha.

Driven by Competition and Community

The "Souper Bowl" format uses a friendly rivalry with George Ross Mackenzie Elementary to boost donations. According to student organizer Marissa, the competition adds an incentive for families and the community to participate. “We really just want to help solve anyone’s hunger,” she said.

How to Donate

The JSHS is making it easy for the community to get involved. Donations of canned goods can be dropped off at:

  • The JSHS Main Office

  • Home Basketball Games

  • Upcoming School Concerts

The JSHS student body hopes this initiative inspires more community service across the county. To hear more from the students leading this project, you can listen to the full interview with Marissa and Tabitha here.
